What is SNAP?
SNAP (formerly known as food stamps) stands for the Supplemental Nutrition Program which helps people buy the food needed for good health. SNAP benefits are deposited onto an electronic card (EBT) that is used like an ATM or bank card.
Where can I use SNAP?
You can use SNAP at most supermarkets, grocery stores, and even some farmers’ markets. SNAP can be used to buy any food except prepared hot foods. You can also buy seeds and plants that grow food.

Protect Your Benefits:
Criminals and cyber-attackers have ways in which they can trick individuals into providing personal identification, allowing them to steal your benefits. Use the following steps to help protect your benefits.
- Don't give your card information to anyone. DHR will never ask for your card number or PIN on the phone, through text, or by email. Be mindful of any 3rd party apps you put your SNAP card information on.
- Do change your PIN every month right before you get your benefits on your EBT card. Not sure how? Call the number on the back of your card and select option 3.
What to do if your benefits are stolen:
- Visit your county DHR office to complete a stolen benefits report.
- Call the number on the back of your card to report your card stolen and order a replacement card.
